Tournament admission tickets and VIP Oceanside Lanai hospitality packages for the 2012 Sony Open in Hawaii are available for sale online or tickets may also be purchased in-person at any First Hawaiian Bank branch on Oahu. Admission to the event is free Monday and Tuesday, January 9-10 and $15 per person daily Wednesday through Sunday, January 11-15 if purchased in advance on-line or at First Hawaiian Bank branches on Oahu. Tickets purchased at the gate during tournament week are $20 per person daily. Season Badges are $50 and good for admission throughout the week. Children 12 years and younger are admitted free when accompanied by an adult with a purchased ticket. Active and retired military service members also admitted free with valid military ID.
Waialae Country Club golf course has been Oahu’s PGA TOUR's tournament venue for the past 47 years. Its scenic oceanside greens, brisk trade winds and Seth Raynor flavor traditionally attracts one of the TOUR's most international fields. Mark Wilson took the win at the 2011 Sony Open in Hawaii, making it his 3rd PGA TOUR title of career. He finished with an overall score of 264. Three weeks after the 2011 Sony Open, Wilson won his 4th PGA TOUR title at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Sony Open in Hawaii features a field of internationally-renowned members of the PGA TOUR, including more than half of the 2011 Top 50 Money Leaders including Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, KJ Choi, Jonathan Byrd, 2010 champion Ryan Palmer, Zach Johnson, Bo Van Pelt and Adam Scott. Mark Wilson will defend his title in the one-week event that consistently draws an elite field of international professionals and showcases Hawaii to a global television audience in more than 450 million households in 200 countries. The rounds of professional tournament competition is nationally broadcast live by Golf Channel and is the only PGA TOUR tournament with live broadcasts to Japan provided by NHK and Jupiter Sports Network.
A week of entertaining, fun-filled activities for community and tournament spectators characterizes the event annually. The Sony Dream Cup Pro-Am is Monday, January 9; professional practice rounds and the King Auto Group Pro-Junior Skills Challenge are held Tuesday, January 10; the Official Sony Open in Hawaii Pro-Am is Wednesday, January 11. Thursday through Sunday, January 12 - 15.
The golf professionals are not the only participants who take home a share of the “booty.” Hawaii charities are perhaps the biggest winners at the Sony Open are Hawaii. In its thirteen-year history, the tournament’s charity sponsor Friends of Hawaii Charities, Inc. has distributed over $11,000,000 in grants to qualifying applicants. Its charity partner, The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc, has matched tournament proceeds annually to push distributions to the million dollar milestone since 2005. The event demonstrates a community-corporate partnership that champions women, children, elderly and needy in Hawaii.
The tournament offers free parking venues and shuttle service between tournament parking sites and the golf course. E NOA Trolley Shuttles regularly run from Waikiki for a nominal fee. Mobile devices allowed but adherence to PGA TOUR policy is required. No backpacks allowed throughout the week. No cameras allowed Thursday - Sunday.
